It blossomed out of multiple drug company mergers: Wheelock-Finlay (later the Brunswig Drug Company) and the Bergen Drug Company merged to become the Bergen Brunswig Corporation in 1969. Alco Standard was another drug company that was making huge drug company buyouts such as that of The Drug House in 1977. Alco Standard ended up acquiring Kauffman-Lattimer two years later to expand distribution reach. In 1994 Alco Health Services was renamed to Amerisource Health Corporation, and in 2001 Bergen Brunswig Drug Corporation and Amerisource announce a merger, creating the mega health care corporation we see today.
