For many years, the Book Depository were a fairly large online bookstore with a pretty good reputation for prices, inventory and customer service that eventually merged with Amazon after doing a deal with them a few years back but in early 2023, they suddenly announced a full shutdown of all operations would happen on June 23, 2023. I have my suspicions about why this happened (mostly involving Amazon seeing them as a threat so they pulled the plug on the entire company) but it was still a big shock since there were little or no outward signs anything was seriously wrong.
