For it’s entire existence BOSE has been an extremely innovative and unique company that is worth 3.8 billion dollars today. It was founded by Amar Bose a MIT professor in 1964, who invented a very unique speaker called the Bose 901 that used lots of small speaker drivers all around the speaker box that would bounce sound off the back of the wall to make it seem like the speaker was way bigger than it actually was. In the 1990s they dominated the home theater market with their Bose acoustimass systems and invented the noise cancelling headphone, as well as experimenting with technologies your wouldn’t expect from a speaker completely like their bose electromagnetic suspension for cars, that would keep the car perfectly level while cornering that they hoped would take the auto industry by Strom but never did (look up a video about it). Today companies like Sonos have largely taken over the home speaker market with many average consumers moving away from 5.1 systems to sound bars and wireless satellite speakers.and Bose has somewhat reinvented itself once again by becoming more of a sound lifestyle brand with headphones, portable Bluetooth speakers, neck speakers, and even sunglasses with speakers in them and of course soundbars. I think BOSE is a fascinating company with an amazing story that was massive in the 90s that then fell from that peak and has done a good job at reinventing it’s self into more of a lifestyle company today.
