Erik Buell was a motorcycle racer and engineer at Harley Davidson. He raced motorcycles, which meant that racing a Harley wasn’t feasible. But racing a Japanese bike in that environment felt wrong. So, he developed race bikes. Eventually, he made street bikes. Then his company was bought by Harley. Several years later, the Harley brand was killed off. EBR was born. It has kind of died a few times. Erik Buell appears to be making an electric bike now. Anyway, it’s a more amazing tale than “the Tucker,” as continues today.
