IHRA is possibly the biggest fall from grace we have ever seen within a 3 year time period.

Darryl Cuttell (owner of Darana Hybrid, a contractor for SpaceXAI) bought the IHRA with the profits from his construction contracts with Elon Musk’s SpaceXAI data centers.
IHRA announced in early 2025 of multiple purchase’s of motorsports tracks (drag strips) and their property. They also announced a return to national Top Fuel Events for the 2026 year. Among this were other announcements that IHRA will also host other forms of motorsports such as water motorsports (boat racing) and stock car racing.
Through the months IHRA began a complete overhaul of it’s brand and promotions. Massive spending was evident to bring up the sanctioning body to the class of its competitor the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association)
Early this year (2026) the national top fuel series began but cracks were already begging to show, low attendance at their events and low viewership on its streaming platform. Racers and fans were begging to question how could IHRA be sustainable with its massive payouts to racers and their ongoing events.
It wasn’t until July of this year that it became a reality where IHRA announced that it will cancel its remaining 2026 season.
No official reason was ever given but racers and fans already new that Darryl Cuttell/IHRA had over promised and were bleeding money hand over fist. 
Additionally, SpaceXAI & Darana Hybrid had gotten into a leagal battle for uncompleted projects/falure to pay.
This is a very brief explanation of events but I’m sure once you do some quick research, you’ll see how IHRA promised so much, yet now its selling off its assets and racers and fans think this is the real end of IHRA, a sanctioning body thats has been around since 1970.
Also there are some in the racing community that believe this was all a ruse in attempt to purchase the property of the race tracks in order to redevelop them into data centers, costing racers their way of life.
