MUJI is a Japanese retail brand that specialises in lifestyle goods with a touch of minimalistic design and focuses on sustainability. It is commonly referred to as the Japanese Ikea.

Having opened in the 1980s, it grew pretty quickly within Japan. But in the early 2000s, internal conflicts and production issues saw a decline in sales.

With strong leadership by certain individuals, the development of the ‘MUJIGRAM’, the refinement of product development, and the rise of minimalism over the past few years (partly thanks to Marie Kondo), MUJI has now expanded to over 500 stores internationally including in Spain, Saudi Arabia, United States and Australia.

Thus, I think it would be an interesting topic/company to talk about detailing their rise and fall and rise again.
