The rise and fall. Growing up Nextel was the Premium cell phone company to be with. Everyone had one and if you didn’t, you wanted one. The push to talk was revolutionary at the time and due to the low network frequency, it worked anywhere. They went from one of the best to selling to sprint. The network couldn’t handle the changing times and was going to be very expensive to upgrade due to the data driven market that was changing. Did they not adopt as so many companies (blackberry)? Everyone who was anyone had one from athletes, business people, every company seemed to use them for business, city and state officials and Movie stars. I remember the deposit I had to pay to get one was $1500, just to get service, plus the cost of the phone. (I was 18 and had no credit). I saved up all I could to get one. Back then, that was a lot of money, lol. They were the main sponsor for NASCAR and you saw there logo on every other sports event. Again, What led to there downfall, what could/should they have done differently? Please, Nextel is an amazing story, speak about the beginning and of course the end. #RIPNextel. Thank you Company Man
