They were so prominent throughout the Southeastern U.S. before 2008, but I feel like most people outside of retail enthusiasts have forgotten they ever existed. They were a better upper-middle department store than Belk, Dillard’s, or Macy’s, and have a very interesting history of ownership including a brief tenure under LJ Hooker. The public needs to not only be reminded of them, but explain why all later owners began to see no value in the brand and how it ultimately was killed off.
