RealNetworks RealVIDEO player is credited with being the first ever player capable of “streaming” live video over the net.
Released as a plugin to RealAudio Player in 1997, it apparently, single-handedly made the online porn industry, among other industries, explode….. so to speak.
Also, I remember it being used by network TV news to stream the 9/11 coverage live as it happened. Thanks!
