Ever since I was a boy, it was always a treat when the “Schwan Man” would come. I grew up in rural Idaho, so ice cream men were pretty much movie fiction to me. The Schwan Man, though, he often brought Schwan bars or SilverMint bars. I recall the delivery men often stocked extra on the trucks to cater to impulse buying.

Now, having graduated from college, I was visiting my mother and found she still orders frequently from Schwan’s. Curious about what I thought was just a catalog based food delivery company, I did a quick Google search.

I was shocked to see how many massive brands Schwan’s owns and how massive a company it really is.

I’d like to know how it came to be and how it’s still chugging along.
