Flamboyant founder, Good enough to make a fictionalised drama series covering early years, well documented history (couple of books), downsizing in 1930’s (sold regional stores to employee owned rival John Lewis). Conglomerate action in 1970’s, independant revival in 1990s. Now owned by Canadian Galen Weston (who has some other similar stores).
