The rise and fall of this network, first launched in 2005 as PBS Kids Sprout, originally in partnership with PBS, Sesame Workshop, HIT Entertainment and Comcast. Comcast’s buyout of NBCUniversal led to its now-owned subsidiary to own its stake, and eventually they would buy out the other companies’ stakes, with NBCUniversal/Comcast getting full ownership. Then in 2017 they rebranded to Universal Kids and recently shut down in early 2025.
