Founded in 1938, this chain of convenience stores are predominantly in TX, OK, and NM, have acquired through mergers and acquisitions, smaller stores which resulted in them being one of the biggest convenience store chains in the US which the majority of them house the Laredo Taco Company which has a cult following in itself. All these mergers and acquisitions were not enough for parent company Sunoco who decided to sell to 7-Eleven all but approximately 207 stores, in which these stores would have violated 7-Eleven’s non compete clause with other franchisees such as Delek US Holdings who controlled the part of West Texas that these remaining stores were left. They then allowed a commission agent called Cal’s Convenience Inc. to take over these remaining stores for the time being. This raises a question of what is this commission agent true purpose, which come to find out earlier this year, Delek US Holdings decided to end their partnership with 7-Eleven and rebrand their locations to DK Convenience Stores by 2021 which makes me wonder if this was 7-Eleven’s plan all along to end those agreements and finish aquiring what’s left of Stripes.
