I know they went out of business a long time ago, but when Sun TV went under, they no longer honored the extended warranties they had sold to customers. There was no one to go to to honor the warranty because the company no longer existed. The government stepped in because of this and started making rules and regulations that companies had to adhere to if they offered extended warranties, just in case that company went out of business. They were required to keep a percentage of funds per extended warranty in escrow so in the event they failed, there would still be money to honor the extended warranties. Also, a lot of people thought that Sun TV went out of business but changed their name to hhgregg, which is not true. They moved into a lot of the old Sun TV locations, had the same company colors, and one of the head people at Sun TV (I believe his name was Dennis May) went to work for hhgregg when Sun TV went under. He also left right before hhgregg’s decline. I think it’s a cool topic because of how that one company failed and the government stepped in to change the way all retailers have to operate when it comes to extended warranties.
