A charter team of the American League that moved to Minneapolis and became the Twins, only to immediately be replaced by an expansion team of the same name with Major League Baseball acting as if nothing had happened. This new team lasted until 1971 before becoming the Texas Rangers. This meant that Washington had a team for seventy years before not having a team again until the Expos moved in 2002 to become the Nationals, reviving the alternate name of the Senators.
