I knew this company, with a great reputation in the electric utility industry, for many, many years. George Westinghouse was a giant, first offering built homes to rent for his employees and then making them available for purchase at low interest rates. Always gave credit to employees with innovative ideas. Had his company stolen by J. P. Morgan in 1907. At funeral, so many employees wanted to be pallbearers that hundreds were made “honorary pallbearers.” Company grew and was highly successful in jet engines (Bell X-1 had Westinghouse engines as did I believe the P-80 Shooting Star. Company suddenly declined in the 1980s through very bad management. Despite better quality than competitors. Why did this happen? T&D Division was so good it was swooped up by the Swedish-Swiss concern, ABB-Brown-Boveri in the mid-1980s. What happened???? G. E. was innovative but poor quality. Westinghouse had innovation AND quality.
